loremipsummodsFriday the 13th was always a big to-do in the Potter home. All the superstition surrounding the day itself made living among muggles that much more exciting. Of course a boy of sixteen years had to make the most of his summer holiday, particularly those days spent apart from his mates. James busied himself all afternoon with strategically placing black cats on porches, rigging doors to come completely off the hinges when opened, and mailboxes to refrain from opening no matter what means were taken to the contrary. Sure these were punishable offenses in the muggle world, but he was off the hook as far as magical law was concerned. Providing he wasn't susceptible to expulsion from Hogwarts for using magic against non-magic folk, he was within his scope of practice. As far as James would tell you, the Ministry had learned long ago to pick and choose their battles with the Potter boy.
After a day of frivolous scares and practical jokes, James settled down in front of the WWN with his dad and listened to true tales of Friday the 13th in the magical society, stories of the past that had been misconstrued to nothing more than tall tales by muggles in recent years. After having a few laughs at the misconceptions and chatting it up with his dad over dinner, the old man retired to his bedroom and his wife. To prevent from accidentally overhearing any unwanted activity on behalf of his still overly affectionate parents, James cranked the volume on the WWN a little more before stretching out on the couch. Within little time at all, he was lost to a complete, restful sleep.
It seemed as if the sleep had lasted for no more than an hour by the time James had awoken, but in reality he had been out for a little over three. His eyes pried open first as he looked at the ceiling, straining to hear what he thought were scratches at the door. Finally resorting to turn off the WWN, James sat upright and inclined his head toward the door a second time. Some more rustling, but nothing too distinct apart from the rain crashing against the windows and door from outside. Narrowing his eyes, James figured it was best safe than sorry. For all he knew one of his neighbors could have planted a flaming bag of poop on the porch as means of getting even. He crept slowly to the door, slinging it open instantly with wand at the ready when the space opened up. The sight he saw, however, caused him to lower his guard within seconds, his wand being lowered as he ushered the sopping wet bloke inside. By the looks of his best mate, he had gotten into it with someone. Judging by the bags, said someone was likely a family member. It didn't take Lily Evans to piece this puzzle together. Sirius either had been turned out, or he had left. "Fuck all. What's wrong with your face?" James started, attempting to keep things as casual as possible to start off the explanation. He tossed the closest bag onto the couch he'd formerly been laying on, heaving the second one up on his shoulder before shutting the door behind them.
